Travel between Osaka and Wakayama


Wakayama is not far from Osaka. You can visit Wakayama as one day trip. There are Nankai Wakayama-shi Station and JR Wakayama Station which are not the same station. Please make sure that you go to the right station.You can take JR Kisei Line between Wakayama-shi station and Wakayama station (7 minutes, 190 yen) but only 1-2 trains per hour or take the bus (13-15 minutes, 230 yen).



What is the difference between Nankai Wakayama-shi Station and JR Wakayama Station?

Nankai Wakayama-shi Station (shi is the suffix for a city) is operated by Nankai Electric Railway Co., Ltd. Kansai Thru Pass covers Nankai Line. JR Wakayama Station which covered by JR Pass, is operated by Japan Railway Company (JR).
There are buses and trains between these two stations. Taking the bus is 10 minutes.

By Train

1. From Kansai International Airport
Nankai Airport Express for Namba Line to Izumisano Station (10 minutes). Change to Nankai Line Local / Express for Wakayamashi (30-40 minutes). Fare is 870 yen. Kansai Thru Pass covers Nankai Line but additional fee for limited express train.

2. From Nankai Namba Station
2.1 Nankai Airport Express for Kansai Airport to Izumisano Station (35 minutes). Change to Nankai Line Local / Express for Wakayamashi (30-40 minutes). Fare is 920 yen.


2.2 Nankai Airport Express for Kansai Airport to Kishiwada Station (30 minutes). Change to Nankai Line Local for Wakayamashi (60 minutes). Fare is 920 yen.

2.3 Nankai Airport Express for Kansai Airport to Kaizuka Station (Osaka) (32 minutes). Change to Nankai Line Local for Wakayamashi (53 minutes). Fare is 920 yen.




JR Wakayama Station


By Train

1. From Kansai International Airport
JR Kansai Airport Rapid for Kyobashi to Hineno Station (10-12 minutes). Change to 
JR Kishuji Rapid Service for Wakayama (30 minutes, 890 yen) or Limited Express Kuroshio (22 minutes, 1,540 yen for unreserved seat). 

2. From JR Namba Station

2.1 JR Yamatoji Line Local for Oji to Tennoji Station (6 minutes). Change to Limited Express Kuroshio (45 minutes). Fare is 2,050 yen for unreserve seat.

2.2  JR Yamatoji Line Local for Oji to Tennoji Station (6 minutes). Change to JR Kansai Rapid Airport Service for Wakayama to Hineno Station (43 minutes). Change to Kishuji Rapid Service for Wakayama  (30 minutes). Fare is 1,080 yen.

By Bus

OCAT: from Kansai Airport to JR Wakayama Station. One way ticket is 1,150 yen (adult),  580 yen (child). Round trip ticket 2,100 yen (valid for consecutive 14 days from the date of first use). Only 40 minutes between Kansai Airport and Wakayama Station. Purchase ticket at vending machine at the airport or bus stop
